Being 20 in 20 years in the Mediterranean area

 This study, initiated by the French Institue for Youth and Education for All (INJEP) is an analysis in 2000 and a prospective in 2020 on the future of youngsters being born on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea : a demographic approach and its consequences in terms of human, economic and cultural exchanges, on a voluntary basis for instanc The atlas realised by Iriv, was published under the title "Avoir 20 ans dans 20 ans en Méditerranée" :

Objectives

The objective is to collect data on the following points : a demographic approach : decline in the North, growth in the South ; its consequences its consequences in terms of human, economic and cultural exchanges. ; a special focus on politics towards youngsters.

Project outcomes

Many statistics are presented (130 statistical tables and 24 maps) plus articles from experts in this issue. The first part is an Atlas realised by IRIV : on population, human development, economics, migrations...Five years are taken into account : 1970, 1980, 1990, 1995, 1997 plus 3 years in the near future : 2000, 2010, 2020. An analysis of this quantitative data is made on 3 points : demography, education, employment and economic perspective. The list of the countries are : North : Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Malta and Portugal ; South : Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Marocco, Tunisia ; East : Cyprus, Israël, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Jordan ; Adriatic countries : Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovinia, Croatia, Slovenia, Yougoslavia and Macedonia. The second part is dedicated to articles writtzen by experts in the different countries or field.

July-August 1999 : first draft
September-November 1999 : corrections and final draft

Partners

The Institute for Youth and Educationis the main editor and publisher. Under the aegis of the Ministry for Youht and Sports, this public institution is meant to intervene in the field of Youth and Associative life. Training, access to new technologies, research, documentation, publications, European and International services for youngsters and people working with youngsters.
