Trans-Cité

Presentation

The "Trans-Cité" projets aims at enhancing citizenship among youngsters and female migrants in disadvantaged districts in several departements in Ile de France (Paris, Seine Saint-Denis, Essonne, Val d'Oise, Yvelines et Sein et Marne). In ordee to achieve this goal, the project is offering to youngsters and female migrants an associative experience associationve together with a transmission exercice. In order to ahve a clear awareness of their role of citizens in their neighborhood, they will create an association answering their needs and interests, and they will be asked to transfer this experience to others. The participation to the project will encourage a process of autonomy and self confidence.

Context

The rate of unemployment in urban districts in inner cities is high : 21% in 2010, the highest level since 2003. Inhabitants of these areas are directly concerned: youngsters , most of the time in a situation of school failure, and women, both sharing a migration background. They suffer from a triple discrimination on the labour market, linked to their gender, to their ethnic origin and to the place where they live.

Objectives

The project followed several steps:

  1. the first phases concerned the national steering committee that was hold three times. it gathered the partners of the project and the stakeholders involved in the experimentation  of the portfolio ;
  2. the second phase is the organisation of six pedagogical sessions with youngsters and female migrants to build a project ;
  3. the third phase is the dissemination of the results through information meetings among staholders such as local authorities, city information centres, social centres, youth associations and migrants' associations.
